Winter Views

I enjoy winter, but after the holidays, it seems like cloudy days can go on for a long time. Yet, even in the depth of winter, there can be a play of light and clarity breaking through the clouds.

On days when I wonder if my writing is ever going to get on track and feel easy and natural again, I think of this quote by John Steinbeck:

"What good is the warmth of summer without the cold of winter to give it sweetness."

Some days are just going to be better than others—those are the creative "flow" days and they are wonderful. On those other days, I need to keep going until I break through the cold and find the "warmth of summer" again.
